ACE Green Day

It’s go for Green Day

Searing heat, wildfires, torrential downpours, flooding, drought and distressed wildlife - it’s been a difficult summer for the environment. Now more than ever people are asking: “What can we do? How can we change things?”

If you want answers, come and meet us on Sunday 25 September, the official launch of Aylsham Town Council’s environmental action group ACE (Aylsham Climate Emergency) with our own special Green Day in the Town Hall and Market Place.

There will be something for everyone. Alongside our ACE stalls offering suggestions and solutions to your climate questions, we’re hoping to have a salsa band, street food, a storyteller to entertain the children, refreshments in the Town Hall and lots more.

Henry Layte, owner of the newly-opened Book Hive on Red Lion Street, has kindly offered to sponsor a fact-finding mission for children under 10 with book token prizes – all the answers the children will need can be found on our ACE stalls on the day.

Vendors selling local produce will be busy alongside business and commercial stallholders who will be there to outline the benefits of solar panels and biomass heaters; and representatives from Vattenfall will explain their plans for our region and their research into the ways in which wildlife and habitats respond to wind farms.

Michael Dolling, from the ACE Waste group, says: “We’ll have a load of old rubbish on our stand! There will be activities about what can be put in your grey kerbside recycling bin and what can be taken to local drop off points.”

They intend to offer a list of locations where everything from bras to Brita filters can be dropped off for recycling in or around Aylsham, and want to share ideas on prevention, reuse and repair with you and your family.

There will be an opportunity to add to their “pledge tree” with a promise to yourself about how you are going to reduce, reuse, repair or recycle more.

The ACE Transport group have ideas about alternative ways of getting around Aylsham and will be offering detailed information about great cycle routes from Aylsham into surrounding local destinations.
