Aylsham Celebrates Norfolk Day
The 2019 Norfolk Day takes place on Saturday 27th July. Why not join in the celebration?
Aylsham Women’s Institute will be giving away cupcakes to commemorate the Centenary of the Norfolk Federation of Women’s Institutes from 9am in the Market Place. The first 100 people who visit their stall outside the Town Hall will each receive one of the free cupcakes.
If your taste is for something more savoury you could try breakfast at the Bure Valley Railway’s Whistle Stop Café before heading off on a walk. A bacon or sausage bap with tea, coffee or squash is included in the ticket price of two of the three walks being organised by Aylsham Walkers are Welcome on Norfolk Day. The two walks including breakfast start at 10.15 am and breakfast will be available from 9 am. If you fancy a later start, and have sorted out your own breakfast, the third walk might be your cup of tea.
For full details of the walks visit www.aylshamwelcomeswalkers and go to the ‘Events’ page. But here is a summary –
Walk One: start with breakfast – 21/2 mile walk to Brampton along Bure Valley Path – train ride back to Aylsham – finish with strawberries and cream at BVR station. No stiles, suitable for all ages and abilities and a fun family outing.
Walk Two: start with breakfast – 21/2 mile walk to Brampton along Bure Valley Path – after our companions from Walk One board the train we head off to walk a further 51/2 miles back to Aylsham taking in the River Bure, The Mermaid (a stream not a pub!) and Marsham. The walk takes in river banks, tracks across field and there are a couple of stiles. There may also be some cattle.
Walk Three: catch the 11.30 am BVR train from Aylsham to Brampton – meet up with the Walk Two folk at Brampton to walk the 51/2 miles back to Aylsham.
Walking not your thing … but you like to move to the rhythm and enjoy a cuppa? The Town Hall will be hosting a Tea-Dance on the afternoon of Norfolk Day. Come along strut your stuff.
